Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology
The Radiology Department offers a wide range of services. The department is open 8 am – 5 pm Monday through Friday. After hours there is always a technologist on call to help with the care of the patients in the evenings, early hours and weekends. The Radiology Department offers the following modalities to serve the patients:

CT ( Computed Tomography) Scanner- As of August, 2011 we have a brand new 16 slice CT from PHILIPS. This equipment allows scans to be completed in seconds in comparison to our prior scanner.  Exams are completed quicker and better and with the faster scanner there are more exams that we are capable of performing. These exams give more detail than general x-ray exams. We scan the head, chest, abdomen, pelvis for soft tissue and organs. We also scan bones and can do vascular studies.

Bone Density (Osteoporosis Screening)- Utilizing specialized software during this exam we select specific areas in the Lumbar spine and in the hips to determine the densities in these areas. This will help diagnose Osteoporosis or Osteopenia in the bones, and if treatment is needed.

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)- This service is available on Fridays. The mobile unit arrives Thursday evening and is set up so Friday morning everything is ready to go. The MRI is very useful for scanning anatomy with more detail and giving more specific information, for example: joints, soft tissue, vascular and brains.

Ultrasound- This service is available on Wednesdays of nearly every week. These exams cover the organs in the abdomen, and also are used with blood vessels – both arterial and venous. Ultrasound also is used to examine the pelvic area and the uterus in female patients.

General Radiology ( X-ray exams)- These are the bulk of our exams. Nearly every part of the anatomy can be examined using this modality. We have two general X-ray exam rooms.

Teleradiology- Every exam we do at Mt Grant general hospital is stored in our PACS system and then electronically sent over the internet to the group of Radiologists who read our exams. When their report is finalized it returns to our facility and attached to its correct radiology exam.
